Question of the Day
Posted by Gerrit at 2008-02-05 13:56:23

Who's going to win tonight?

This one, we'll even answer for you!  In advance of the live2log of tonight's election, we've thrown in our two cents.  Not that we know anything, but it at least keeps us somewhat accountable.

Sweeney, having expressed her opinion on Election 2008, has opted out of this exercise.  Instead, she's contemplating the fact that Vegas had given the newly found Tahoe skiers incredibly favorable odds of surviving:

Well, they are considered "expert" skiers.

And we are off!
Posted by Winston Smith at 2008-02-05 19:26:31

Early returns suggest that CNN isn't listening.  Even to itself.  Their graphics are disagreeing on percentages, amounts, the whole bit.  At this point, Illinois and Georgia are Obama, Clinton is OK in OK.

Hillary seems to be ahead in the early returns for all the 8pm closings, but its mostly close stuff.

First commentary from Winston:  McCain has this shit on lockdown.  If he can win Connecticut as polls close, hes doing well.  He should be close to home, strong!

Plus, WNYC is reporting that Clinton HQ is tense.  Very tense.  I will take this as a good thing.

Beer is off!
Posted by Winston Smith at 2008-02-05 19:35:08

Plus, it should be noted, that Sam is already sporting a Pimp-tastic forehead beer cap thang.

Obama running real close in Conn.  Tenn. seems to be going hard to the hole for the Hillary Camp.

Arkansas Closes and goes IMMEDIATE to the team Clinton.

So Here We Are
Posted by Sam Dingman at 2008-02-05 19:35:11

So we're here at BK's crib, enjoying some chili and beers and sweating it out with the morons on CNN and the geniuses at WNYC

For those of you who are, for some reason, looking to 2log for your poll results instead of just running commentary, we're excited around here about the numbers thus far out of Connecticut: Obama 50-47 as of the last update.

Be warned: these posts may devolve in comprehensibility due to the onset of the unbearable Miller Liteness of Being...

Here HE Goes
Posted by Sam Dingman at 2008-02-05 19:38:34

Wolf the Stutterer confirms what we should have suspected: the networks are projection happy.  What with the historical nature of this evening, we're getting projected winners with as little as 3% of precincts in.

It's well established this is a battle for delegates, as I believe Winston is about to note, but it'd be foolish not to assume the networks will do all they can to spin it towards momentum.

A word on the delegates
Posted by Winston Smith at 2008-02-05 19:44:06

It should be said right now, that in the democratic primary, winning states is actually pretty moot.  What actually matters is that the delegates.  Margin of Victory is the only key, because every single primary splits the delegates.  Not so on the republican "winner-take-all" side.   Watching the numbers, it looks like delegates aren't swinging very far away from 50-50 right now.

To be honest, big swings aren't likely to happen on the Dems side.  The media make a big deal about calling states, because in electoral college, that actually matters. (another reason the electoral college is dumb)  But in the confines of splitting delegates, weird things like "how many people voted for each candidate" actually matter.

In other news... my pick of STRAIGHT GRAVEL TICKET seems to be doing... poorly.  At best.

CT and Del-E-Del
Posted by Sam Dingman at 2008-02-05 19:46:02

Percentages gettin' higher, and Obama's clingin' to a slim lead in Delaware and CT!  Meanwhile, Main Man is up 71-28 in Alabama, but the Wolf isn't ready to call.  Explain that shit 2 me!

Dilemma
Posted by Sam Dingman at 2008-02-05 19:55:01

A question from BK, and a good one: Would you rather see the recycled Frank TV shtick from last year's super bowl, or Dane Cook announcing that there's only ONE Super Tuesday?

Magic!
Posted by Sam Dingman at 2008-02-05 19:58:28

It may be an error, but MSNBC has called Alabama for Mike Huckabee despite the fact that he's trailing 41-35.  The exit polls, you see.
